The new USB 3.1 Type C connector guarantees a data transfer rate of 10 Gbit/s according to the new USB 3.1 Super Speed Plus Standard, which is twice as fast as the actual USB 3.0 standard. But the new USB connector not only convinces by its speed, it also has several other advantages. For instance, it supports the USB-power-delivery-standard as well as the USB-audio/video-standard. This means that one connector system is able to transfer power up to 100 Watt as well as video data in ultra HD-Standard at the same time. Thus the USB 3.1 Type C system has the potential of advancing to a universal transmission system. The absolute highlight of the new Type C USB-connector: it was not only developed for the implementation of the new USB 3.1 Super Speed Plus Standard with a data transfer rate of 10 Gbit/s, but also with keeping in mind the compatibility for the coming USB-standard developments in the next years! Thus, in order to come up to future standards, it is equipped with 24 contacts, 12 per side being used at the time. Additionally, it is specified for a data transmission of 10 GHz. Medium-term, the new Type C connector – which W+P is offering on the market as one of the first companies worldwide – is meant to replace the hitherto usual USB-connector-types mini USB, micro-USB, Type A and B. With compact measurements of only 9.0 x 3.4mm, it is substantially smaller then Type A, only minimally larger but significantly sturdier than previous micro-USB-types. It is ideally suited for usage in smartphones or for embedded boards. The user friendliness has been enhanced considerably by choosing a symmetric connector style, which for the first time allows to plug a USB-connector in any direction – there is no defined upper or bottom side any more. A downward compatibility is guaranteed by the usage of adapters. The new W+P USB connector series 8320 is available as SMT-PCB-connector with 24 contacts. The contact material consists of copper alloy with a gold plated surface on a nickel barrier layer, the insulator material is made of thermoplastic plastic according to UL94 V-0. The solderability is guaranteed in accordance with IEC 60512-12A, safe functioning is given in a temperature range from -40° C up to 85° C. |
